Claire Salem

Living in Glastonbury, Somerset. I am deeply driven to support women through the life-changing processes of pregnancy, birth and early motherhood.

I completed my initial doula training with Conscious Birthing in January 2011. I practiced as a mentored doula with Doula UK for 2 years, before making the decision to focus on supporting women as an independent doula, as well as with yoga classes, and dance.

I trained as a perinatal yoga teacher with Garbhini Yoga (now Yogagro). I completed my diploma in Perinatal yoga in May 2012, and I have attended training retreats in both prenatal and postnatal yoga.


I have a BSc (Hons) from the University of Bristol. in Anatomical Science with a specific focus on locomotion, biomechanics, joints and muscle anatomy.

My first son was born in Summer 2010, he was a planned home birth that ended with a transfer for an emergency caesarean birth. This experience inspired me  to seek out ways to support other women (and their families) going through the life-changing process of bringing a new baby into the world, and  to help them achieve their most positive birth experiences.

While pregnant with my second child, I experienced first hand the process of arranging a home VBAC, and became even more passionate about maternal choices and bodily autonomy in childbirth. I am determined that other women in that position should be supported in making genuinely informed choices about their own care.

I live with my husband, my sons and an array of cats and houserabbits. I am a qualified Secondary Science teacher, and teach some supply and private tuition.

I also work as a freelance writer, and regularly publish articles on the web and in magazines as well as my own blogs.

I have a number of interests relevant to my doula practice, and I am happy to discuss and enable parents in a variety of birthing and parenting practices.
